Concept of I.V

Intravenous solution is one of the most important categories of injectables. Large volume I.V. Solutions play a vital role in medical history not only in terms of controlling dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, nutrition deficiency, hypo-volumic conditions of plasma but are the only therapeutic carrying agents in critically ill patients. Even in general use Intravenous Solution can firmly be categorized as Life Saving Drugs.

The history of manufacturing I.V Solutions in Pakistan is having only fifteen years. MediPak (Lahore) was first company, which marketed a Pakistan made I.V Solution followed by Jeoffman (Karachi) I the same year. Siza, a Lahore based company followed the footstep next year. Before launching of these products the demand was catered by different importers, which were importing from different countries mainly from China, Italy& Indonesia. One of the Importers, Hospital Supplies Corporation after having collaboration with Otsuka, Japan established a plant at Hub and they started marketing their product in 1989.

Although all of these above-mentioned manufacturing units gave, a new dimension to the manufacturing of pharmaceutical Products and in a way served the country but they brought second hand machines from different countries, which were decided not good from their parent companies, for instance MediPak purchased that machine from Pharma Plan (West Germany) which they installed in 1992. H.S.C & Otsuka collaboration come with that plant which was previously installed in Indonesia, The fact of the matter was Otsuka Indonesia was shipping on modern technique (blow molded & fill) and they wanted to get rid of these machines which were-designed on a technique which according to new research can harm the patient.

The first brand new project was installed by Shaheen Foundation at Hub (now this project is owned by B.Braun) followed by A.Z. Pharma (Lahore) “Shazeb Pharmaceutical (Haripur) & M. S. Pharmaceutical (Lahore). One more project of I.V. Solution was installed at Haripur with the name of Frontier Dextrose Ltd.

However, it was also with the old machines & technique.
